Styles of Deck Lighting

There are three basic types of outdoor deck lighting. This article will give you a quick overview of the three different types. For detailed information please review the various articles on this site.

Accent Lights

Similar to sconces used in indoor lighting, accent deck lighting is available in a multitude of styles and can be used on posts, railings, and steps to provide downward-focused illumination. Usually low voltage and space saving, accent light fixtures are available in lots of different designs to reflect your personal style.

Post Deck Lights

Post lights are larger fixtures that attach to deck railings or posts. The light projects 360 degrees around the fixture, making it a perfect accent for marking the entrance to a deck or flight of steps.

Recessed Deck Lights

Recessed deck lighting mounts flush to the deck. You can tread on these lights without damaging the fixture. These lights are ideal for lighting the perimeter of decks and docks and are available as disks or bricks.
