Patios, outdoor lighting fixtures,  and patio heaters are simple to set up, and they give you a beautiful outdoor space for your family and friends to enjoy.

Patios are a great way to make the most of your outdoor living space, and with patio heaters and a good outdoor lighting design, you have a place to relax and entertain in the evenings and into the colder months of the year. You’ll be surprised at how little a new patio can cost to build, particularly if you do it yourself, and when you take into account the increase in the value of your home, you’ll probably find it more than pays for itself. There are a number of different types of patios, designed to suit different climates and lifestyles. You’ll also find a huge range of patio heaters, outdoor lighting fixtures and outdoor furniture to choose from.

If you already have a vision of how you want your outdoor space to look, and you need some practical help to make it a reality, or if you’re simply looking for some inspiration, you’ll find a wealth of great information online. There are lots of web guides, magazines and books on designing patios, preparing the terrain in your garden, and choosing materials including bricks, pavers, outdoor lighting fixtures, patio heaters and outdoor furniture.

Planning your patio.

Before you start designing and budgeting for your new patio, there are a few things you should consider. It’s a good idea to think about what you’ll primarily be using the outdoor space for. Do you simply want a quiet relaxing space to sit and read, or are you planning to use the space for cooking meals and entertaining family and friends? Your design will also depend on whether you plan to use the patio during the day, in the evenings, or both, and whether you plan to use the space into the winter months.

There are a number of basic patio types to consider. Covered patios are usually attached to the house, and create a kind of transitional space between the indoors and outdoors. An open patio is generally set apart from buildings and large trees, to let you make the most of the sunlight, and is most suitable for cooler climates. If you live in a warmer climate, and you need to escape the sunlight during the day, a small garden patio nestled in amongst plants and landscaping features will give you a cool, quiet, intimate retreat.
